IWhich games make the board
Games that players in the UK can start today on at least one mainstream platform, built around a story, a world to explore or a run of quests. We mix long role-playing epics with games that fit a single evening, and games played alone with games for a party.
IIHow we play them
Over many evenings, alone and with friends or family where the game allows it. We look through any shop, try the chat and report tools, set up the family controls and time ordinary sittings before we write a word.
IIIWhat a score weighs
- Story: writing, characters and whether choices matter.
- Play: controls, depth, fairness and how it feels to improve.
- World: art, sound and whether it is worth spending evenings in.
- Company: how well it works alone, with friends or with a family.
- Quest ends: clear save points, sensible sittings and how hard the game pulls you back.
IVFrom score to rank
One editorial score out of five, in tenths, sets the rank seal a game carries on the board:
- Rank S, Mythic (from 4.8): One of the finest quests we have played: we would hand it to almost anyone who likes the genre.
- Rank A, Heroic (from 4.5): Excellent, with a caveat or two that the quest log spells out.
- Rank B, Valiant (from 4.0): Very good for the right party; the review says who.
- Rank C, Wanderer (below 4.0): Rough around the edges, but worth the road if the genre is yours.
VSittings and quest ends
The sitting shown for each game is one we timed ourselves: a chapter, a run, a voyage or a few in-game days. The quest end is the natural moment to put the game down, usually a save point. Neither changes a score; both help plan an evening.
VIWhere the facts come from
Platforms, chat options, accounts and costs come from our own play and are checked against each game’s official pages, which stay the reference for prices and age ratings. Studio home towns come from the studios’ own pages.
VIIWhat we never do
No paid placements, no sponsored scores, no invented facts and no reviews written from trailers or press releases.
VIIIKeeping reviews current
Links, platforms and shops are checked regularly. When a big update changes how a game plays or what it sells, we play it again before touching the score.
